Mangaladevi Temple
The Bolar shrine to goddess Mangaladevi from which the city of Mangaluru takes its name, revered as the region's presiding Shakti deity.

History & Significance
History & Origin
Tradition holds that the temple was built in the 9th century under Alupa king Kundavarma at the request of the Nath-sect saint Matsyendranath, though another legend credits its founding to Parashurama with later expansion by Kundavarma.
Religious & Cultural Significance
As the deity after whom Mangaluru is named, the temple is central to the city's civic and religious identity and remains one of its most visited Shakti shrines.
Architecture
Built in Kerala temple style, it has a two-tiered gopura, a granite plinth and laterite superstructure under a terracotta-tiled roof, with the seated image of the goddess enshrined in the garbhagriha on a platform reached by five steps.
Traditions
The temple observes a weekly Friday food offering (anna santarpane) and hosts public worship on the first Friday of each month.
