History & Significance
History & Origin
Local tradition traces the temple back about eight centuries to a legend in which a Tuluva king, Veerabahu, accidentally killed a cow while hunting and installed a Shiva linga - worshipped since as Sharabeshwara - to atone for the act; the adjoining Ganapathi shrine later grew into the temple's principal draw.
Religious & Cultural Significance
Located on Sharavu Ganapathi Temple Road in Mangaluru's commercial centre, it is one of the city's most frequented temples and a long-standing hub for Yakshagana and other cultural programs.
Traditions
The temple regularly hosts Yakshagana performances and dance-drama, and undertakes community service activities alongside its religious calendar.
