Someshwara Temple
A cliffside Shiva temple overlooking Someshwara Beach in Ullal, believed to date to the Alupa era and known as a site for post-funerary Pitru rites.

History & Significance
History & Origin
The temple is traditionally dated to the 10th century under the Alupa dynasty, with later administration by the Kadambas of Banavasi and the Chowta chiefs of Ullal, and a recorded renovation in the 15th century under Vijayanagara king Immadi Devaraya.
Religious & Cultural Significance
Known as Rudrapada Kshetra, the temple is an important centre for performing Pitrukriya, the last rites for departed ancestors, and is closely associated with the adjoining Someshwara Beach and its Rudra Shile rock formations.
Architecture
The shrine sits on a rocky headland above the Arabian Sea; some accounts describe it as a fortlike structure dating to the 10th-11th century.
